Navigating

Note: if you are using a BlackBerry device, see the section on using Opera Mini on a BlackBerry.
Opera Mini can be used with a stylus, joystick, 4 or 5-way navigation keys, or keypad.
If using a stylus, tap the screen to activate links, form inputs and menus. Drag the scrollbar to scroll up or down.
If using a joystick, or 4 or 5-way navigation keys, left and right provide the Page up and Page down functionality, up and down select the previous and next links or form inputs. If available, push activates links, menu items or form inputs. If push is not available, then either the "call" button (usually with a green phone icon), or the * key can be used instead. Note that you may have to activate text input fields before you can write in them.
If using a numeric keypad, the up and down keys select the previous and next links, and the following key combinations can be used:

The phone's softkeys (or option keys) provide the back button and menu functionality. The softkeys are usually located to the left and right, immediately below the screen. Their functions will change depending on what is written at the bottom of the screen.

Using the Opera Mini interface

When you start Opera Mini, you are presented with the home page, where you can search, access services, and review your history.
You can use the softkeys to access the Opera Mini menu. The menu allows you to open a new page, access bookmarks, return to the home page, access tools, or exit Opera Mini. When entering a URL, you can access a list of previously typed addresses using the More menu, or the Opera Mini menu.
The Tools menu allows you to modify your settings, review or navigate through your history, add bookmarks, or view help, and report a bug. You can also view information about the page currently being displayed, such as the page title, address, icon, size and security information. Note that the connection between Opera Mini and the Opera Mini server is not secure, so all pages will show as insecure, even if they are accessed using the HTTPS protocol.
In the settings, you can say if you want to load images, if you want to use high resolution images, and if you want to jump directly to the start of the main page content when loading a page. Depending on your handset, you may also be offered additional options, such as selecting a skin, setting a font size, smooth scrolling, and navigation animations. Some handsets may also show a clock on the Opera Mini toolbar, and will allow you to set options for that clock.
Some menu items can be accessed using keypad combinations. If a keypad combination is available, this will be displayed on the Opera Mini toolbar when that menu item is selected.
The bookmarks view allows you to add, delete, and sort bookmarks, using the Manage menu. Edit any bookmark to change its name or address, and to say if it should appear on the home page. Bookmarks that appear on the home page may be accessed using Speed Dial, if this is available on your handset. These bookmarks will be given a number based on the order that they appear on the home page. The first will be given 1, the second will be 2, and so forth. To use Speed Dial, simply press * followed by the bookmark number. This can be used at any time while Opera Mini is running.
Some Web pages may offer files for download, and within Opera Mini, images may also be selected for download, depending on your handset. When a file is ready for download, Opera Mini will offer to start downloading the file, using the download manager on your phone. Your phone's download manager may need to exit Opera Mini to download a file, and some download managers may place restrictions on what types of files can be downloaded, or how they can be used.

Using Opera Mini on a BlackBerry

On BlackBerry devices, most functionality can be accessed using the trackwheel. Roll the trackwheel to select previous and next links or form inputs. Use Alt+trackwheel to perform the Page up and Page down functionality. Click the trackwheel to open the trackwheel menu. The trackwheel menu can be used to select and activate the link or form input, and can also activate the normal Opera Mini menus.
The Enter key can also be used to activate links and form inputs without requiring confirmation from the trackwheel menu. The escape button usually functions as cancel, or to close menus.
To activate the Opera Mini softkey menus on a BlackBerry, either select the menus from the trackwheel menu, or use the softkeys. On BlackBerry devices, the Q/W and O/P keys function as softkeys.
To use keyboard shortcuts on a BlackBerry, simply press Alt, then the # key, then the desired number key. To use Speed Dial, press Alt then *, followed by the bookmark number. You will not need to press Alt before pressing the number keys.
Note: you may need to select "turn wireless on" on your BlackBerry before starting Opera Mini.
